ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Lead Field Services Coordinator provides state oversight to county probation and court services departments, in specific Illinois circuits, as well as ensuring the implementation and sustainability of community correctional evidence-based practices and programming, Administrative Office standards, statutory mandates, and federal law. Work is performed with considerable independence and with latitude for professional judgment under the general supervision of the Field Services Manager. The Lead Field Services Coordinator provides ongoing leadership and mentoring to the Field Services Unit. This position also directly oversees the daily operations of the Field Services Unit in the absence of the Field Services Manager.
FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Acts as a transactional link between the Administrative Office (AOIC) and probation departments.
- Develops, establishes, promulgates, and enforces uniform standards for the Probation Services Division, pursuant to the provisions of the Illinois Probation and Probation Officers Act (730 ILCS 110/15).
- Works directly with circuit and county field assignments and has a comprehensive understanding of jurisdiction’s operations, culture, and dynamics.
- Assists in the development of operational, administrative, and program standards, guidelines, and policies that govern the field of probation and court services in the State.
- Builds positive and influential relationships with the field which supports the goals and objectives of the AOIC and the probation department.
- Acts as lead and/or participant in committees, meetings, and probation department reviews. Serves as a representative to Illinois Judicial College, Supreme Court Probation Policy Advisory Board, or Illinois Judicial Conference.
- Works with chief judges, presiding judges, and probation directors in developing action and compliance plans.
- Develop reports and completes projects for the Unit, Division, and the Supreme Court.
- Through field work and operational reviews, provides ongoing analysis, feedback, positive reinforcement, and, when necessary, corrective action around the implementation and fidelity of practice with the primary requirements.
- Operates collaboratively with jurisdiction on a strategic plan which highlights quality improvement, change management, and organizational development.
- Contributes to a team environment by working collaboratively and openly with Probation Services Division colleagues.
- Identifies and develops at least one area of personal expertise and becomes familiar with topic area and/or skill set on both a local and national/international level.
- Serves as the head of the Field Services Unit in the absence of the Field Services Manager. This role includes overseeing daily operations, providing leadership, and professional consultation.
- Provides professional development to colleagues while serving as the point person on all matters relating to field work and AOIC policies and expectations.
- Assists in onboarding, provides guidance and coaching to team members, delegates tasks, and assists with performance management.
- Develops, pilots, implements, evaluates and, if necessary, modifies Field Services Unit protocols, policies and procedures all the while providing quality assurance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in social science, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field and a minimum of five years professional experience in a community corrections or justice system environment is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in social science, public administration, or a related field plus three years professional experience in a community corrections or justice system environment is preferred. Additionally, professional experience as a Field Services Coordinator is preferred.

- Knowledgeable about the criminal justice system including related Illinois statutes, regulations, procedures, and operations at the trial court level.
- Demonstrate the ability to understand the various components of evidence-based practices especially its applicability and implementation.
- Provide expertise and technical assistance around community correctional evidence-based practices/programming, Administrative Office standards, statutory mandates, and federal law.
- Working knowledge of evaluation of outcomes.
- Ability to exercise initiative, apply critical thinking skills and work independently to complete assignments.
- Demonstrates leadership skills including integrity, conflict management, team building, planning and priority setting, sound decision-making, problem-solving, consensus building, and interpretive skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of the roles and duties of the Field Services Coordinator position as well as the overarching goals and multifaceted responsibilities of the Field Services Unit.
- Possesses a well-developed statewide perspective and extensive experience working with various probation and court services departments throughout the state.
- Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office and Google Enterprise.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. This is a professional office environment with remote work opportunities available which require telephone, computer, and internet usage as well as the ability to process written documents. Applicants must have the ability to travel, including overnight stays, as required. Additionally, applicants must possess a valid Illinois driver's license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal and state vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record.
