$43,818 per year, commensurate with experience

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Judicial Security Officer is a security officer position under the Office of the Marshal and is responsible for the security and safety protection of the Supreme Court and First District Appellate Court personnel and patrons at the Michael A. Bilandic Building. The Judicial Security Officer provides unarmed security protection to the Justices of the Supreme Court, the First District Appellate Court, judicial branch employees and court visitors at the Michael A. Bilandic Building and other locations from potential threats.
FUNCTIONS INCLUDE:
- Operating security detection screening and CCTV surveillance systems
- Identifying and screening court patrons.
- Collecting and inputting data for the Court Security Information System (CSIS).
- Monitoring and reporting unusual activity.
- Responding to and providing assistance to Supreme Court Marshal personnel.
- Conducting patrols of court floors.
- Ensuring order and decorum during court proceedings.
- Preparing comprehensive incident reports.
- Providing administrative support with mail delivery and collection, coordinating vehicle maintenance, and facilitating meeting and conference preparation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma; and at least three years of related work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to prepare clear and concise records, reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge of facility security and safety procedures.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques and procedures used in court security.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality. (Marshal Policy - ADM-03: Confidential and Sensitive Information.)
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships and work in a team environment.
- Understanding of and ability to apply non-violent crisis intervention skills and techniques.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement, court personnel, other agencies, and the general public.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and remain composed in stressful situations.
- Maintain professional dress and business attire consistent with the Marshal's Office.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- CPR/AED certification.
- Possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods; move between floors via stairways; and lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Requires the ability to process written documents.
