The Fourth District Appellate Court Research Department is seeking individuals with an interest in the law for the position of Administrative Secretary for the Fourth District Appellate Court Research Department. An Administrative Secretary provides necessary and valuable assistance to the Research Department and Justices of the Fourth District Appellate Court.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review, edit, and cite check draft orders, opinions, dissents, and/or special concurrences.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with E-mail, word processing software, and data entry, as needed with our case management system.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with the Research Director and Appellate Court Research Attorneys on assignments.
  • Communicate as needed with the Justices and their staff.
  • Associate with other employees in a pleasant, professional, and helpful manner.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner which is cognizant of the Court’s ethical responsibilities.
  • Provide support with general office operations and administrative tasks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of one (1) year of office experience is required. Knowledge of secretarial techniques or education and training equivalent to an associate degree in secretarial science or a related area is required. A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Candidates should possess good editing skills. Candidates should also have proficiency with commonly used office software such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Adobe Acrobat. Competence in the use of web-based case management software and the ability to perform electronic legal research is also preferred. Experienced legal secretaries as well as recent college graduates interested in attending law school are encouraged to apply. A flexible hybrid remote work schedule is possible after a satisfactory period of in-person training.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. This is a professional office working environment requiring telephone usage and the ability to process and read large volumes of written documents in electronic formats.
