$71,132 per year, commensurate with experience

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Clerk of the Illinois Supreme Court seeks a highly motivated individual to review and process case filings in compliance with Supreme Court rules. The Assistant Chief Deputy Clerk is expected to have excellent communication skills as they will have daily contact with parties and litigants responding to questions relating to court rules and procedures. The Assistant Chief Deputy Clerk is also responsible for drafting opinion mandates and other mandates to lower courts; preparing reports for the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court Clerk; and issuing court announcements of the Supreme Court during term. The Assistant Chief Deputy Clerk assists the Chief Deputy Clerk in the execution of responsibilities including work assignments and supervision of staff in the absence of the Clerk and Chief Deputy Clerk. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizations skills, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Individual must be motivated, dependable, and possess excellent word processing skills. Ability to read and comprehend legal documents; interact diplomatically with a diverse group of people; empathize; adjust to unexpected events while meeting deadlines; and provide procedural information without giving legal advice. Must possess skill resolving problems using the procedures set forth by the Clerk’s office. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a strong customer service orientation, interpersonal skills, and an ability to maintain confidential information.
An associate’s degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of work experience in an office environment, preferably a legal setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
