Illinois Judges Receive Recognition and Awards

Illinois judges are increasingly being recognized for their dedicated work in and out of courtrooms throughout the state. Here are some of the recent honors received by Illinois judges:

Former Congressman Patrick Kennedy presented Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne M. Burke with the Kennedy Forum’s 2018 Leadership Award, an honor bestowed on those who have championed mental health justice.

Justice Burke, a founding member of the Kennedy Forum Illinois, was among featured speakers at the organization’s National Summit On Mental Health Equity And Justice held in January at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 South Michigan Avenue.

Justice Burke joined other advocates in supporting the organization’s mission of combating discrimination against people with mental health and addiction challenges.

Chicago Special Olympics, which celebrates its 50th Birthday this summer, was conceived and founded by Justice Burke. In her remarks Justice Burke offered a personal account of her role as the founder of Special Olympics which has “spread around the globe to 172 nations.”

She also praised the Forum’s remarkable accomplishments while calling upon others to “assume the mantle of justice, action and love.”

  • Third District Appellate Court Justice Mary McDade was honored in January as the recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Leadership Award by the King Holiday Committee of Peoria.
  • First District Appellate Court Justice Mathias W. Delort was honored in November with the Judge Howard Markey Award from The John Marshall Law School Alumni Association.
