St. Clair County Circuit Judge Heinz Rudolf received the Richard A. Hudlin Award at the Law Day Ceremonies this year. The award was established in honor of the career of the late Judge Richard A. Hudlin, IV, the first African-American judge in southern Illinois. The Hudlin Award is awarded to an attorney who most reflects the commitment to service and charity to the people of St. Clair County and epitomizes the best aspects of the legal community in its relationship to our community.
Judge Rudolf volunteers for a variety of community services, including reading to students in schools and presenting on issues such as dangers of the internet and our court system.
"We are very fortunate to have Judge Rudolf here in St. Clair County," said Chief Judge Andrew J. Gleeson. "He is constantly helping our community through his volunteer efforts. Judge Rudolf has spearheaded the movement in our area to bring judges to schools and help our kids on many different topics."
"I am honored to receive this award," Judge Rudolf said. "This recognition is not only a personal milestone but also a reaffirmation of the values we must continue to uphold-integrity, fairness, and equal access to justice. Richard Hudlin's legacy reminds us that the law is not just a set of rules, but a tool for uplifting our communities and protecting the rights of all people."
