Judge Steven M. J. Bost, an At-Large Circuit Judge in the First Judicial Circuit and a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, has successfully completed the Military Judge’s Course at The Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, Virginia. The intensive three-week program, completed on June 6, 2025, brings together military legal professionals from across all branches of the armed forces — including the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Army, and Coast Guard — for advanced training in the law and role of military judge.

Judge Bost was previously selected by the 2024 Judicial Screening Board as the only reserve lieutenant colonel approved for assignment to the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary, a distinction that reflects his outstanding qualifications and experience. With nearly two decades of service in the Marine Corps — including seven years on active duty — Judge Bost brings a wealth of legal and military expertise to his new role.

He will serve in the Reserve Judicial Branch of Marine Corps Judge Advocate Division, where he will assist and augment the active-duty Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary as needed.

Judge Bost is one of only three reserve Marine Judge Advocates who also serve as civilian judges. Of those, he is one of only two currently presiding as a Military Judge, marking a rare and distinguished dual role in both civilian and military judicial systems.

His continued commitment to both public service and military justice underscores the vital role that reserve officers play in supporting national defense and upholding the rule of law across jurisdictions.
