The Administrative Office of Illinois Courts Springfield Office helped organize and many participated in the Dana Lovekamp Memorial 5K Run/Walk held Oct. 30 at Washington Park in Springfield. Dana, an avid runner who was very active in the Springfield running community, passed away on March 13, 2021. Dana’s husband Tom is the longtime Logistics and Property Unit Manager for the AOIC Springfield Office.
“There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about Dana. After she passed away, I had many of her friends and coworkers ask what we could do to honor her. We knew how much she loved to run and to be out in nature,” Tom said. “We all came up with the same idea, let’s have a 5K run / walk at her favorite park (Washington Park) and raise money to fight leukemia. Turns out the day we had the race also happened to be my birthday. It wasn’t planned that way, but somehow everything guided us to that October 30th date. I know she would have been amazed by the great turnout and generous donations we received. It was definitely an incredible day that I know Dana would be proud of! We are already talking about plans for next year.”
Proceeds from the event benefited the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
