Justice Peterson was appointed to the Third District Appellate Court on August 1, 2022. Prior to that appointment, Justice Peterson served on the bench in the Thirteenth Circuit in Grundy County Circuit Court. He first served as an Associate Judge, beginning in 2001, and then served as a Circuit Judge, beginning in 2010. Justice Peterson is an alternate on the Worker’s Compensation Commission, a member of the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Jury Instructions in Civil Cases and a former member of the Illinois Courts Commission. He is also a past member and Chairman of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Coordinating Committee of the Illinois Judicial Conference. Prior to joining the bench, Justice Peterson served as Grundy County State’s Attorney from 1996 to 2001. He was a Judicial Clerk for Justice Mary Ann McMorrow of the Illinois Supreme Court and for Justice Tobias Barry of the Third District Appellate Court. Justice Peterson earned his Juris Doctor from The John Marshall Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of The John Marshall Law Review.
