Justice Celia Gamrath graduated cum laude from The John Marshall Law School (now UIC) in 1994. After graduation, she was a judicial law clerk in the Appellate Court. She later became an appellate partner of a mid-size law firm in Chicago. In 2010, Justice Gamrath was appointed to the Circuit Court of Cook County. She was elected in 2012 and retained in 2018. During her tenure she served in General Chancery and the Domestic Relations Division. In September 2024, she became a member of the Appellate Court.

Justice Gamrath is Chair of the Illinois Judicial Conference Task Force on Public Education and Engagement, a member of the Executive Committee of the Illinois Judges Association, a faculty member at judicial educational conferences, and a mentor to new judges. She is the recipient of several legal writing awards, distinguished service awards, and outstanding lawyer awards from her law school, the Illinois State Bar Association and Foundation, the Chicago Bar Association and Foundation, and civic organizations. She is a Chicago fan, tried and true, and is married with one daughter.
