Named for George Rogers Clark, a soldier of the Revolution, who, as a Colonel of the Virginia militia, established Colonial control in the Illinois country, by the capture of Kaskaskia and Fort Vincennes.
Named after Edward Coles, the second Governor of the State of Illinois. Coles served as Governor from December 5, 1822 to December 6, 1826.
