Kathryn E. Zenoff was born in Chicago in 1946. She graduated cum laude from Stanford University and received her J.D. degree from Columbia University Law School. She practiced law in the private sector in New York City and Chicago and served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook and Winnebago counties. Judge Zenoff was appointed to the position of Associate Judge in the 17th Circuit in 1995 and Circuit Judge by the Supreme Court in 1998. She
subsequently won election and was retained in 2004. She has served as Presiding Judge of the Criminal Division and the Mental Health (Theraputic Intervention Program) Court. In 2003, she was elected Chief Judge and served until her assignment to the Appellate Court in May, 2007. She continues to serve on the Supreme Court Committee on Professional Responsibility and to facilitate the 17th Circuit’s pilot project on civility and professionalism. She and her husband have two children.
