Senior Payroll Analyst

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Under direction of the Payroll Manager, performs highly professional and responsible tasks related to in-depth payroll processes and benefit services in automated systems. Serves as liaison for the State Employees’ Group Insurance Program (SEGIP) and the State Retirement Systems (SRS); explains and assists Judicial Branch officers and employees with benefit plans including, but not limited to: Health, Dental, Vision, Prescription, and Life Insurance; Flexible Spending and Health Savings Accounts; Commuter Savings Plans; Deferred Compensation and ROTH IRA Plans; and State Retirement Systems Benefits. Creates and maintains unit procedures; prepares correspondence, reports, and spreadsheets; and performs duties of the manager in their absence.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field, and a minimum of two years of experience working with payroll processes and data on a computerized system, is required. An additional four years of work experience in payroll and benefits may be substituted for the degree. Candidates must also possess a strong attention to detail. Experience working with State of Illinois payroll, retirement & benefit plans, IRS policies, and knowledge of the Illinois Comptroller’s Statewide Accounting Management System (SAMS) is preferred. Experience creating and maintaining documents, spreadsheets, and databases is desired.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to frequently move items weighing up to 10 pounds. Ability to sit for extended time periods, retrieve & file documents, communicate via the telephone, and process written & typed documents.
