Lott R. Herrick

Previous Illinois Supreme Court Justice


Lott R. Herrick was born in Farmer City on December 8, 1871, the son of George W. and Dora Knight Herrick. In 1888 he graduated from Farmer City High School, in 1892 from the Liberal Arts School of the University of Illinois, and in 1894 from the Law Department of the University of Michigan. Justice Herrick was associated with his father in the practice of law from 1894 to 1904 when Mr. Herrick, Sr., was killed in an accident. From 1913 he was associated in the practice of law with his brother, Wirt Herrick. From 1902 to 1904 Justice Herrick served as County Judge of DeWitt County. He was president of the Board of Education of the Moore Township High School, a member of the Sigma Chi, Phi Delta Phi, and Phi Beta Kappa fraternities, and also of the Masonic, Knights of Pythias, and Elks lodges. On June 5, 1933 he was elected to the Supreme Court. He died September 18, 1937 at Rochester, Minnesota.
