SALARY: $80,367 per year

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for support and administration of a highly complex Oracle database environment, which supports multiple database applications and mission critical systems. The DBA position requires knowledge and experience in managing hardware, software systems, programming tools, applications, and Oracle database, middleware, and management software. The DBA position requires experience and knowledge of the Red Hat Linux (RHL) operating system, tools, filesystems, O/S commands, hard drive and resource management, and general networking and IP protocols. The DBA position requires experience with SQL programming / scripts, Oracle backup strategies, monitoring logs, and automated alert systems. Specific Oracle knowledge includes experience with Oracle Enterprise Databases (11g and higher), Weblogic, Apex, Data Guard, Advanced Security Encryption, Virtual Machine administration, Enterprise Manager, and support for reverse Proxy servers. Knowledge in evaluating and applying RHL and Oracle security patches, administering account ID’s and security roles, and monitoring / tuning database platforms. This position requires intermittent work after normal hours.

FUNCTIONS:  The DBA position works under the supervision of the Assistant Director, JMIS and requires a high degree of coordination with JMIS’ existing DBA, its Applications group, and IT Security group. Tasks include monitoring hardware and software systems, installing software updates (o/s and Oracle), system tuning, backup and restoration, administering system resources (processors, memory, disk space, etc.), and the ability to create and administer databases, schemas, and indexes. The DBA position requires detailed technical analysis, the ability to solve complex issues with a logical approach, project planning, time management, and the ability to produce and maintain documentation on system enhancements and application change management activities. The DBA position requires a disciplined approach to all tasks, high attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidential information. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Visio. Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: A Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology or equivalent work experience is preferred. The successful candidate must possess strong oral and written communication skills, be very detail-oriented and disciplined in procedures and assignments, have excellent project and time management skills and be self-motivated. Ability to work alone, with colleagues and third-party service providers is important.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Professional office work environment. Ability to travel as needed, lift computers, peripherals, and equipment, and sit for extended periods of time. Additional work hours, as needed.
