David M. Woodson

Previous Illinois Supreme Court Justice

David M. Woodson was born on May 18, 1806 in Jassamine County, Kentucky. He received his degree at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. He served in the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1832, as State’s Attorney for Greene County from 1838 - 1840, in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1840 -1842, and was a delegate to the Illinois Constitutional Convention in 1847. On November 3, 1848 he was appointed to the Illinois Supreme Court, but remained on the court for only one month. During that time there was no Supreme Court session. After leaving the high court, he became a Circuit Court Judge for the First district, a post he held until 1867. He returned for a second term in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1869 - 1870. Judge Woodson died in 1877 in Carrollton, Illinois.
