John B. Simon
First District, 1st Division
Justice John B. Simon received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1964 from the University of Wisconsin and Juris Doctor degree from DePaul University in 1967, where he was on the Law Review. At the age of 29, Justice Simon was the youngest Assistant United States Attorney ever to serve as a Division Chief. Prior to becoming a Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, he was a principal partner at Jenner & Block where he represented clients in complex commercial litigation, qui tam actions, contract, securities, insurance, antitrust, trade regulation, health care and class action matters.
His competence has been repeatedly recognized by peer review organizations including Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers,Leading Lawyers Network and Martindale Hubble. Justice Simon has devoted much of his professional life in service to the bar and community. He served as President of the Chicago Bar Association; Chair of the Illinois Supreme Court Rules Committee and the Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission; President of the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois, and member of numerous local and state bar associations. He is honored to follow in the footsteps of his adoptive father, Supreme Court Justice Seymour Simon (dec.), in serving the citizens of the State of Illinois.
